SIT Study Abroad: Switzerland: Food Security and Nutrition (Summer)

Investigate how the international community addresses the challenges of meeting the nutrition, food security, and health needs of populations in the 21st century.

Program Highlights

  • Examine food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and Slow Food culture in Switzerland and Istria.
  • Learn from food security and nutrition experts at governmental, intergovernmental, and nongovernmental agencies.
  • Complete an in-depth independent research project.
  • Study French and live with a family in the French-speaking canton of Vaud, where you’ll be immersed in Francophone culture.
  • Enjoy access to research and documentation centers such as the United Nations Library, the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, the International Institute for Sustainable Development, and the Swiss Federal Polytechnic Institute in Lausanne.
  • Explore Istria, at the crossroads of Germanic, Latin, and Slavic cultures, and enjoy its high-quality olive oils and truffles. Spend a day in Venice.
  • Develop networking skills and global contacts in the fields of food security, nutrition, and public health.

SIT tuition and room and board fees include the following:

  • All educational costs, including educational excursions
  • All accommodations and meals for the full program duration
  • Transportation to and from the airport, and on all educational excursions
  • Health and accident insurance

Scholarships:

  • SIT awards nearly $1.6 million in scholarships and grants annually.
  • All scholarships and grants are need-based.
  • Awards generally range from $500 to $5,000.  
  • Contact the financial aid and/or study abroad office(s) at your college or university to learn if your school’s scholarships and grants and federal and state aid programs can be applied to an SIT Study Abroad program.
