Morocco: Arabic Language and Community Service (Summer)

Advance your spoken and written Arabic skills through community service and immersion in Moroccan culture.

Program Highlights

  • Develop your Arabic skills rapidly through intensive study, field exercises, and interactions with native speakers.
  • Learn at the level that’s right for you.
  • Practice your language skills in the community.
  • Explore a specific academic or cultural interest on a topic related to Morocco for the Arabic Writing Seminar.
  • Work with a Moroccan NGO for the Community Service Project.
  • Experience Moroccan culture through hands-on activities such as cooking, calligraphy, and costuming.
  • Live with a host family for six weeks in Rabat’s centuries-old historic medina.
  • Visit historical sites throughout Morocco, such as Meknes, Volubilis, and Fes.
  • Explore small towns in the Rif Mountains, such as Chefchaouen and Ouezzane, and experience rural life in a nearby village.

Money Matters

Be sure to discuss how study abroad costs are handled at your school with your study abroad advisor.  

SIT tuition and room and board fees include the following:

  • All educational costs, including educational excursions
  • All accommodations and meals for the full program duration
  • Transportation to and from the airport, and on all educational excursions
  • Health and accident insurance

Scholarships:

  • SIT awards nearly $1.6 million in scholarships and grants annually.
  • All scholarships and grants are need-based.
  • Awards generally range from $500 to $5,000.  
  • Contact the financial aid and/or study abroad office(s) at your college or university to learn if your school’s scholarships and grants and federal and state aid programs can be applied to an SIT Study Abroad program.
